I have a positive, strengths-based approach to counseling. I focus on bringing out the strengths in kids while balancing it with addressing their challenging behaviors. I incorporate the research-based concepts of developing “emotional intelligence.” The objective is to help kids calm and center themselves so they are able to learn in school. In addition, I focus on developing the social skills necessary to get along with other kids in social and academic situations.
This is my 9th year at Settler's Point Elementary. I was the Social Worker for 3 years and this is my 6th year as the COPE Counselor. I grew up on a lake in Michigan and went to junior high in Vienna, Austria. I moved to Arizona in 1992 to attend Arizona State University where I earned a Master of Social Work degree. I worked as a Family and Child therapist before working at Settler's Point. I currently provide education support counseling as the COPE Counselor.
